Careers

Work that survives its own funding cycle

Salaries are published, hiring is structured and scored, and the staff survey results appear in the annual report unedited. Four roles are open right now.

Open roles

Four positions

Program officer, water

Nairobi, Kenya Full-time Programs

KSh 4.8–5.6M per year

Own the Turkana water portfolio's day-to-day delivery: contractor management, committee support and the quarterly service checks.

What you would do

  • Manage drilling and pump-supply contractors against published service standards
  • Support water committees through tariff and repair decisions as facilitator, not chair
  • Run the twice-yearly water point inspections with the county technician
  • Write the quarterly progress note, including what went wrong

What we look for

  • Five years in WASH programs, two of them in arid or pastoralist contexts
  • Working knowledge of solar pumping systems and maintenance contracting
  • Fluent English and Swahili; Turkana language skills are an advantage
  • The patience to sit through a three-hour committee meeting and let them decide

  • Publish the public dashboard with the data team, on a two-week close cycle

  • Draft and manage proposals for foundations and institutional funders
  • Keep the evidence library current so proposals write from facts, not memory
  • Coordinate budgets and compliance answers with the finance team

Hiring process

Four steps, no ghosting

Every applicant gets an answer inside two weeks of each stage, including the ones we say no to.

  1. 1

    Application

Send a CV and a short answer to one question from the posting (usually: what would you check before trusting a result?). No cover letter required.

  2. 2

    Work sample

A paid, time-boxed exercise close to the real job — a one-page analysis, a section of proposal, an inspection plan. Typically two hours.

  3. 3

    Panel interview

One hour with the hiring manager, a future teammate and one colleague from another team. Structured questions, scored independently.

  4. 4

    References and offer

Two references, at least one who has managed you. Offers go out inside the published band, with the reasoning stated.

Working here

What the offer includes

Salary, published ranges

Every role has a published salary band, reviewed against market data each year. Offers are made inside the band and the band is in the posting.

Real time off

Twenty-five vacation days plus public holidays of your choosing, and R&R days after deployment cycles. Leave use is reported to the board.

Learning budget

$1,500 per year for courses, conferences or language tuition, plus protected time for it. Hydrology or epidemiology modules are encouraged for program staff.

Hybrid, clearly defined

Office roles are hybrid with two anchor days. Field roles sit where the work is, with travel days counted and flights home twice a year.

Pension and health cover

A 6% pension contribution and international health cover for staff and dependants, identical in structure across all offices.

A say in the strategy

Staff elect two representatives to the board's strategy session, and the annual staff survey results are published in the annual report, unedited.

Nothing that fits today?

Send a short note about what you do and the team you would join — roles open through the year and notes are kept on file for six months.
