The second teacher effect
Thirty-two crowded schools in Sylhet added a second shift and an assistant teacher. Reading levels moved first.
A first-year pilot: rehabilitated classrooms, materials and coaching for twelve schools, with a scale-up test.
This is the newest education pilot, and it is built to answer one question: do rehabilitated classrooms with coaching improve retention enough to justify scaling? Twelve schools were selected with the district, and the scale-up test was written before the first classroom opened.
The pilot is expensive per student in year one — rehabilitation is front-loaded — and the published figures say so. If the 2026 review shows the retention gain, expansion is funded; if it does not, the pilot ends and the data is published either way.
